Credit Recovery vs. Georgia Virtual School

Credit Recovery
Cost FTE or tuition based. Available to public, private, and homeschool students The program is available at no charge to public school systems in Georgia for all first time enrollments. There is a $25 re-enrollment fee for public school students. Georgia private school students are eligible for program participation for a fee of $100 per 1/2 credit.
Instructional Model Teacher-led instruction using asynchronous online courses Teacher-less instruction consisting of Flash/video presentations, review assignments, web-based learning activities, and unit assessments
Available anytime Yes. Students generally complete the course (s) during the normal school day. Yes. Post tests and the final exam or EOC, if applicable, need to be proctored at the school by the credit recovery site coordinator. All other coursework can be done at home or school.
Completion Time Courses are completed within a standard school semester. Four start dates are available to students. Students have approximately 26 weeks from the date of enrollment to complete the course.
Grade reported on transcript Yes. Local school facilitator gathers student grades electronically and submits them to school records personnel. Yes. The local credit recovery site coordinator retrieves grade from course and submits for inclusion on student’s transcript. This grade is in addition to the previous grade, not in place of it.
Testing Requirements All courses include a final exam. EOCTs for required courses must be administered by the school system at the end of each semester. All courses include a final exam or EOC. Registration Students self-register for a GAVS account and apply for their courses. Local school facilitators approve students and designate payment (FTE, students will pay, School pay) options. Students create a credit recovery account. The credit recovery site coordinator must then enroll students in the necessary course.
